For the Vedeggio-Cassarate tunnel, a project of national importance and critical for the transportation plans of the Lugano area, we performed Tranche G10.
This required the construction of a 60 m approach trench, a tunnel and underground passage of 210 m length through loose material comprised primarily of gravel and silt.
The trench walls were built using secant piles of between 26 and 31 m in length, with pre-stressed anchors. The excavation sections were between 29 sq m for the underground passage and 120 sq m for the tunnel.
Mechanical excavation of the arch was performed under the protection of the pre-consolidation jetted grouting, after which the rest of the tunnel was dug out.
Mesh ribs and steel fibre-reinforced shotcrete were used as support measures after excavation.
